“Terrifier” review

Terrifier (2016)

Director: Damien Leone
Writer: Damien Leone

Two girls head out on Halloween only to discover they are trapped in a gory horror movie.  They are being pursued by Art the Clown who finds all forms of death and torture fitfully amusing. They try to escape his wrath but this only turns him on more. It all ends up in an empty building where Art celebrates Halloween in his own Artful way.

“Terrifier” is a very simple, satisfying gory B-movie. There is no discernible origin to Art or any discussion of motive as he decides to maim and torture all day and night. One thing is certain, this clown enjoys his work. Unlike other slashers who seem to derive no pleasure from their human culling, Art is a smiling slasher fiend.

And a fiend he certainly is as three scenes stand out. First horror lesson to learn: When a killer is leering at you in a pizza place, don’t tease him. Art was eerily controlled here. Of course later that led to the second scene where the pizza place teaser met an unfortunate hacksaw demise.

And lastly, Art surprised me by brandishing a gun to dispatch a victim. I was actually more shocked by this scene as slashers, by their very definition, use some sort of bladed weapon. Art has evolved into a fully rounded killer and earns his Terrifier badge of honor.

SCORE: 3 out of 4 hacked off clowns 🤡

Important safety tip: Do NOT take selfies with maniacs

Your death will make his day.
